The massive agitation campaign launched by the "Alliance for the protection of free water" drew such large sections of the people of the nation into its cause that the Government and its backers constantly attempted to evade an issue that they had so wished to pass into legislature in secret. No less than ten different documents of the original policy were formulated but all attempted to ever hide the fact that was not hidden to the people at all - "We want to sell you the water that we want the legal system to steal from you on our behalf". The scream of indignation was so loud that the Government was not able to implement the policy all these years, even after they had drafted a "Water Act" and formed a sort of "Water privatization authority". The campaign caused some people who had sold themselves to this "authority" to loose their jobs. The Greens were not particularly concerned. What they and their partners were very concerned about is that the policy has never been revoked and lurks in the background always. This became very apparent after the tsunamis. There are constant attempts to set up a background to enable the government to price water. We are in a dangerous situation. We are watching ... and ready to spring into action at a moments notice. The tiger is not dead... it is merely sleeping.

From Anuradhapura to Tissa we walked in indignation...
