There is not much to choose between the destructive effects of tsunamis and that of development aggression. Both cause untold suffering and trauma to those affected by them, destroy entire communities, social networks and lifestyles and leave a wasteland in their wake.
However, despite the awesome and terrible power of such phenomena, those that stand for truth, stand. They are visible like beacons of hope for those who have been rendered bereft of it by natural and human activity at its destructive best.
Like the statue of the Buddha which was the only thing that was preserved intact in an area hammered by the recent tsunamis, those that work with the truth and vote for the truth like the Green Movement of Sri Lanka preserve - and persevere, working ceaselessly and tirelessly to safeguard resources and lives that are unable to save themselves. |
