APPEAL FOR SUPPORT IN EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE

Terrible conflicts yield terrible results. That human beings have not realized this over thousands of years of killing each other is strange. Sri Lanka, no stranger to contention, is almost at the end of the longest running war in Asia - spanning 25 years. In comparison to other conflicts, it has been given relatively little prominence in international circles.
WAR refugees

However, what is very prominent both locally and globally is the plight of civilians trapped in the no-fire zone over the last four months. The government, in its full commitment to the humanitarian action it has embarked on, is slowly enabling trapped civilians to escape from the conflict area.

It is clear that the displaced and severely traumatized are in a very poor physical and mental condition and that the existing infrastructure in those areas is under tremendous pressure to deliver the best possible care for these citizens. Although the government has thrown every resource it had into ensuring the highest possible care for them, it also recognizes that there are gaps that they cannot fill. Thus, as one of the few civil groups allowed to work in this area, the government has appealed to the Green Movement of Sri Lanka to help them through its formidable Disaster Management and Information Program.

We, in turn, appeal to you to help us help the displaced by providing funds to ensure that our equity and result based ideology, our racially and religiously neutral worldview is brought to bear on a potential disastrous situation and contribute to a new mechanism for post-conflict action for the victims of war.

Sincerely,
